SMALLVILLE TO RETURN FOR A TENTH SEASON ON THE CW
The CW Network has announced that its hit series SMALLVILLE will return in the fall of 2010 for a momentous tenth season.
SMALLVILLE, a modern retelling of the Superman legend, stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent. The series moved to Friday nights this season, where it currently ranks as network television’s #1 show in its time period among men 18-34 and men 18-49. Additionally, SMALLVILLE has dramatically improved The CW’s ratings performance in its Friday 8:00-9:00p.m.time period by 67% among adults 18-34 (1.5/6), 200% in men 18-34 (1.8/7), 75% in adults 18-49 (1.4/5), 183% in men 18-49 (1.7/6) and 74% in total viewers (3.12million).
SMALLVILLE joins the five previously announced series – THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, GOSSIP GIRL 90210 SUPERNATURAL and AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL – which will all return for another season on The CW.
SMALLVILLE was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (“Shanghai Noon,” “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”), based on the DC Comics characters. Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson serve as executive producers, along with James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink and Warner Bros. Television. SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Written by Turi Meyer and Al Septien, who came on board in Season 5. They have written KANDOR, BRIDE, INSTINCT, APOCALYPSE, FRACTURE, COMBAT, LABYRINTH, CURE, FADE. . . amongst other episodes over the seasons. The episode was also directed by Turi. His first Smallville episode, but has previously directed for Angel and Buffy.
Rating: I give this episode a solid 10. It’s a number. BUT this episode, as so many Meyer & Septien episodes, catapults us into the end of the season (after a five week hiatus). This team is reliable, especially under Peterson and Souders watch. And can we give our Executive Producers huge kudos for an outstanding season so far and so many promising things to look forward to?!
TEASER:
A rainy Metropolis at night. Faora gazes at her dogtag on the lone Metropolis street. The Daily Planet’s headline reads “Tower of Tomorrow Terminated” showing the burning building. Clark, wearing casual Clark gear, warns her it’s not a good idea to advertise she’s from another planet. She reminds him that even though he feels more human than Kryptonian, she knows who she is. He tells her to keep the dogtags out of sight. She’s upset that someone destroyed ‘their’ tower. Faora says, “It could have been brought down by anyone. I don’t know who to trust anymore.” Clark says he knows what the tower meant to them, “but you can’t change what’s happened in the past.” That’s because he’s trying to change what happened in the ‘other’ future. “Zod told us it was our salvation.” Clark insists that Zod was wrong. “Trust me. Your future will be much brighter without it.” They are walking down the street. Faora in the lead. Only one thing gives her hope, apparently Clark found her sister and brought her back.
Said sister flings herself at Clark. “Kal-El!” Clark looks at Faora. “It’s Clark, remember?” He reminds the ingénue that Faora and her have to call him by his human name. Vala is all smiles. “Clark. It just sounds so alien.” Faora can see her sister is enamored of the hero. “I came to check on you both. I can understand how hard it must be adjusting to your new home,” he says. Faora snips that without their powers adjustment will be more difficult. Vala is all Kal-El worship. “We have nothing to fear anymore. Kal-El will protect us.” We hear a siren and Lil Miss Sweetie Sweet gives Clark permission. “Go. They need you, too.” Well gee, thanks. He nods and zips off.
Vala can’t take her eyes off of her hero. “Sister, don’t get your hopes up. He’s in love with a human.” (See, even Faora knows.) Disappointment pervades Vala’s demeanor. Faora tells her to close up. I thought she was talking about her sister’s jacket. “You can drown your sorrows in one of their cappuccinos.” Faora leaves for the café while Vala continues to be let down. She goes into the used book store where she is working. She’s closing up when the bell on the door rings. She turns and sees no one there. We get the scary movie thing where the young girl starts shouting ‘hello’ instead of either grabbing a gun or running screaming from the store. Y’know blondie being smarter than two Kryptonians is not a big deal.
The door is wide open so she shuts it and turns over the closed sign. Pulls the shade on the front window and turns out the lights while still in the store. Blondie’s IQ just dropped another ten points. She walks back into the store and, wouldn’t you just know it, she runs into a bad masked man. Oh, who knew? She screams and runs for the safety of the front door, but is grabbed from behind as he gases her from his little glove gas apparatus. I’m cramping in horror (NOT) as we get a close up of this guy’s mask. Then we see a terrified eye of Vala who is in some pod-like encasement along with two guys. Credits. Read more…

It’s been four weeks since the Fortress collapsed and Clark disappeared. Green Arrow calls upon Black Canary and Aquaman to locate the missing Clark Kent. Clark, in the meantime, is powerless and residing in a Russian prison camp in Siberia. With Lex Luthor missing and presumed dead, a new ruthless CEO, named Tess Mercer, is appointed the head of LuthorCorp and moves into Lex’s mansion with her own dark plans for Clark and Metropolis. Chloe is kidnapped by a clandestine group that has discovered her special powers and they want to test the limits of those new powers by locating Green Arrow and his friends.

Clark’s first day on the job at the Daily Planet begins with a bus exploding right outside the building, which leads him and Lois on a trail of someone who might be infected by kryptonite. Chloe finds a runaway teenage girl, named Bette, whom Chloe suspects is involved in the explosion when Bette (whom will later become the fire-starter Plastique) has the meteor-rock power of pyrokinisis. In the meantime, Chloe also meets a local medic, named Davis Bloom, who takes an interest in her, even though she’s engaged to Jimmy Olsen. Elsewhere, Tess meets Clark for the first time as she takes over the Daily Planet in Lex’s absence and immediately senses something not right about him.

Chloe and Lois are attacked by two thugs which one of them is hit by Lois with her heel, she starts feeling a bit heroine about it so she recruits Jimmy for the picture so she can convince the people she is Metropolis’ new hero, with the name of ‘Stiletto’, so she can take away the famous red and blue blur. However, Lois may end having contact with this red and blue blur when Clark wants to try to track down the mysterious ‘Stiletto’. While Clark tries to help Chloe recover her stolen laptop computer with all of the Justice League’s files on it, she continues to hide Davis in the basement of the Talon. Elsewhere, Jimmy is working as a bartender at a nightclub where the thugs who robbed Chloe and Lois reside and are plotting to kill Stiletto to reclaim the city for themselves.

Davis asks Chloe if she can go away from the city with him, but when Clark realizes Davis is alive, he confronts Chloe to give him an explanation about it. Meanwhile, Oliver discovers that Jimmy has become a pill-popping junkie and offers his services and emotional support. But Jimmy is too consumed by his anger and paranoia and brushes off Oliver. Later, when Oliver sees Jimmy breaking into Chloe’s apartment to steal money and items to buy more drugs, things get worse when Davis appears and attacks them both. It leads to an angry Clark tracking down Davis/Doomesday to the ruins of the Fortress of Solidue for a brutal confrontation.

Meanwhile, Oliver, as the Green Arrow, agrees to help Clark look for things that can stop Davis by breaking into Tess’ safe at the mansion to steal some black Kryptonite hoping to separate the two entities apart, while Chloe is revealed not who she appears to be, and Tess is working for another greater power beyond everyone else.

Oliver tells Clark that he must kill Davis, but Clark deals with the fact that he can’t take a human life. This leaves the justice league to take the affair on their own hands. Then, Rokk Krinn teleports from the 31st Century to give Clark another Justice League time-traveling ring so Clark can exile Davis/Doomsday to the future. But in a surprising twist, Lois confronts Tess about her nefarious plans involving a mysterious crystal and in the fight, Lois accidentally finds Rokk’s ring, and gets zapped into the future. Meanwhile, Chloe gets in the middle of Clark and Oliver’s fight about Doomsday’s human carnage, in which Dianah/Black Cannary and Bart/Impulse intervene. Jimmy finds out Clark’s identity, leading to a fateful showdown when Clark attempts to use black kryptonite to split Davis from Doomsday and seal the beast in a large hole in the ground. But nobody is prepared for what Davis will do afterwords.

New York, NY, February 26, 2010 – Spike TV has picked up a second season of 13 episodes of its first original scripted comedy series, “Blue Mountain State,” it was announced today by Kevin Kay, Spike TV president. Produced by Varsity Pictures’ Brian Robbins and Sharla Sumpter-Bridgett and Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF), “Blue Mountain State” launched in January and has averaged nearly 1 million viewers, improving the timeslot in the key demographics of Men 18-24 by +165% and Men 18-34 by +86% (through six episodes).
“Blue Mountain State” follows the on and off-field antics of incoming freshmen as they learn to adapt to life at the fictional college football powerhouse, Blue Mountain State. Former NFL running back and veteran actor, Ed Marinaro (“Hill Street Blues”), stars as the coach. Alex, played by Emmy Award®-winner Darin Brooks (“Blue Crush”) is a talented quarterback, content to be second-string and ride the bench while partying with his best friend Sammy, played by Romanski (“The Sarah Silverman Program”). The cast also includes Thad, played by Alan Ritchson (“Smallville”), the team’s over-the-top team captain and Denise played by Gabrielle Dennis (“The Game”).
Brian Robbins and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett are executive producers. Series star Romanski, along with Eric Falconer (“The Sarah Silverman Program,” “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia”) also serve as executive producers and writers.
