Friday, August 17th will bring us episode 2, Chapter 1, digital #13 of SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 aka DETECTIVE.  You wanted a Superman Batman team up on Smallville?  Well, now you have it.  The Cape Crusader comes to Metropolis to find the murderer of his parents.  With Nightwing in tow, this will be a monumental moment in Smallville history.  SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 will be the ONLY book in the new 52 offerings to get World’s Finest.  Miss the Superman/Batman series?  Check out Bryan Q. Miller’s take on them.  His Superman has been critically acclaimed as the REAL Superman since the DC reboot last year.

Never purchased a digital-first comic before?  Here are some helpful questions and answers:

HOW do I get my hands on the digital-first Smallville Season 11 comic?

Comixology is the central point for all digital comics.  They distribute digital comics to the different apps.  So you only buy once and can read the comic on their website ( or on your device (Apple or Android).

  • Strictly web users:  You’ll need an account on  You can order and read on the website.  This is mainly for Windows OS users that have desktop, laptops, netbooks, etc.

You have a device app & another computer (for web read) – If you have an account on your device app, you will want to keep the same login name and password for the account for ease of use.  You only have to purchase once.  If you only read on the device, there’s no need for the Comixology. com account.

  •  Android and Apple device users:  Apps are available through Android Market or iTunes, or websites.
  • Kindle Fire users:  DC Comics for purchase have completely disappeared from the pre-loaded Comixology app.  But have no fear, you can purchase Smallville Season 11 on the website and download it to your Kindle Fire.  This is a ‘work around’ since the loss of DC Comics from the pre-loaded Comixlogy app appears to be a contractual/licensing situation.  We’ll keep you informed when more details/facts become available. (Be sure to keep your login and password on your device app and the same for ease of use.)
  • Window apps users:  If you’re fortunate to get a DC Comics app via Windows Market for your smartphone and it’s reliable, then utilize it.  If you are unable to get a Windows app, you can use the website for purchase and reading

You can purchase a compilation of 3 digital firsts in a print version.  Price is $3.99 US.  Print compilation versions will be available monthly and on a Wednesday. Find a local comic book shop or if there isn’t one near you, subscribe print versions from the DC Comics or Comixology websites or national comic shop websites like Lone Star ( or  There are comic book shops all over the world, just like there are Smallville fans.

Also, we recommend starting a pull list at your comic book shop (either local or web).  The comic book world judges the success of a print book by the number of orders it has for a given month.  Orders are not sales.  Be guaranteed you’re going to get your floppie version of SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 by starting a pull list.  Often shops will give discounts with a pull list.  Find out if this bonus is offered at your shop.

Do you have your pull list ready to purchase Smallville Season 11 print compilation?  It will have 3 chapters plus an episode guide for the show.  This is more story and extras than most comics contain for $3.99.  So if you like the feel of a printed book — go to your comic shop (local or web) and buy 2.  That’s right.  One for reading and one to — MINT THE PRINT!

Smallville Season 11 print versions are offered the first Wednesday of the month.

Just read the new Smallville comic – great story, BUT, Clark and Lois are looking less and less like Welling and Durance with each issue – the last couple of covers especially. Is this deliberate? A way for DC or WB to avoid paying the actors or something? Are you able to get a message to the decision makers that we want SMALLVILLE, not just some generic Superman and Lois. It’s bad enough that we never got to see the payoff for the ten years on tv. If we have to settle for comics, at least they should make them look like the actors. Thanks for passing this along.

Bryan Q Miller has said there’s a fine line between the characters looking like the actors and using a likeness of the actors. So yes, it is something they keep in mind for legal purposes. But creatively, he knows what fans want to see. So it’s a neverending battle apparently. :D

Not every artist is going to totally ‘get’ the likenesses for whatever reason, be it style, etc. There is no longer a ‘generic’ Clark and Lois in comics. There hasn’t been for decades.

I believe Chris Cross is only pencilling the first 3 chapters of DETECTIVE and then we get another artist, Jamal Igle. So be prepared for a different perspective of the characters’ to actors’ likenesses.

I’ve discussed it with my resident authority of all things Tom, Chrisluvstom — she had the same fears, but she is satisfied with the ‘close-up’ panels being very Tomesque in Smallville Season 11 #13 and the artist made Clark HOT so it’s better than what fans have been getting the past year in Action Comics.

I personally enjoyed this first chapter of DETECTIVE. Bryan managed to heal some of my WONK and Grounded wounds inflicted before DC totally disavowed the marriage and the Clois relationship in the new 52.

I hope that answers your concerns. Keep on enjoying SMALLVILLE SEASON 11. Bryan seems to have some great surprises in store for us.
