Watchmen and 300 Director Zack Snyder to direct new Superman movie

Deadline and Hollywood Reporter today confirm that a director is now set for the upcoming Superman project that is being developed by Chris Nolan. Zack Snyder is the director of choice for Warner Brothers for the project. Snyder directed Watchmen and 300 for the studio as well as the current Owl movie in theaters and the upcoming flick Sucker Punch.

One thing I like about Snyder coming into the project is that he takes the genre seriously. He loves the comics and sci fi world and is no stranger to it. He also is not someone who ever does any stunt casting. Watchmen’s cast was filled with people who were not household names – like Jeffrey Dean Morgan and he helped make Gerard Butler a star in 300. Lena Headey as the leading lady in 300 was not necessarily a big box office name choice- he chose her because he thought she was best for the part. I am hoping he takes the same approach to casting his Superman chapter.

Now that a director is set- the casting is the next big thing for us to wait on. Will there be another unknown like Brandon Routh brought in or will Tom Welling be brought up to the big leagues? People online keep hammering abut Jon Hamm- but HE IS TOO OLD to be Superman though he would be a good Lex Luthor-watch him show his bald chops HERE in this FunnyOrDie spoof.

TOM WELLING that is the best choice . Anybody else the movie will flop. Also the Smallville DVD owned by WB will sky rocket in sales. The movie does not and should not be a continuation of Smallville , but Should follow its Lead and formula.
