OSCK Choices: Characters who We’d like to see Return in Season 10

As what is without a doubt the best season of Smallville coming rapidly to a close, we’re shifting our eyes forward to season 10 and have some suggestions that we’d like to make to the staff on characters who we’d like to see return to Smallville (budget, schedule, etc permitting.) Clark Kent will need to start learning to be even more comfortable with his duel identies in Season 10 and adding a few cast members who DON’T know his identity would help to balance out the series and make things more challenging for Clark.

With Michael Rosenbaum having a new project he’s out of the running. Laura Vandervoort is too busy trying to wipe out humanity on “V” to return, and Kristin Kreuk has a new comedy in the works reminding us that Lana’s time has passed on the series. Even without these 3 key characters there are plenty out there who could come back and make appearances on the show again.

1) MARTHA KENT – HOSTAGE is a dream come true for Superman fans, Martha Kent is coming home. As much as a single guest appearance warms our heart, we feel that the series lost a bit of IT’S heart when Martha headed off to Washington DC and left Clark alone with Shelby on the farm. The time is right for her to leave Washington and come home as a close confident for Clark for next season. As his duties take him more and more to Metropolis, it would be prudent to have Martha there to watch over the farm. Added bonus – imagine all of the fun that the writers could have with Lois & Clark and their budding relationship getting into sticky situations with Martha around. (4-6 Episodes)

2) PERRY WHITE – With Clark moving closer to his destiny, Lois Lane needs help honing her skills to become the ace reporter that we all know and love at The Daily Planet. In the comics Perry took Lois under his wing for many years and was like a father to her before Clark came on the scene. Now would be the perfect time to bring Perry in to give his favorite reporter the right direction to head to launch her out of the basement for good. With everyone other than Lois knowing Clark’s secret, it would make for nice balance on the series to have Perry on since he is also in the dark about Clark’s true identity. (4-6 episodes.)

3) LUCY LANE –  With Flash Forward‘s future in the air, it’s possible that Peyton List will be seeking employment next season. If that’s the case, Season 10 would be the perfect time to bring Lois’s brilliant wayward sister home to roost in Metropolis. With Oliver in charge of Luthorcorp, any and all charges that might’ve been out there regarding Lucy should’ve been dropped leaving things open for her to return. If this is the final season for Chloe it would be nice to have a relative around for Lois to have to worry about. Lucy would be another character who’s clueless of Clark’s true identity.

4) GENERAL SAM LANE – There’s only one man in the world who terrifies Clark to his very core, and that’s General Lane. Lois’s 3 Star General father’s return would make for comedic gold. In the comics he is very disappointed in Lois’s choice of a husband, as he deems Clark to be a wuss and believes that his daughter has settled beneath her (HA!)  Having him on the show again could create for some fun tension, Lane family conflict, and nice teases of things to come for the future.

5) Cyborg (Victor Stone) – Victor is the one JLA member who’s only made 2 appearances on SMALLVILLE. With Lee Thompson Young’s character Al Gough taking a swan dive off of the Federal Building on Flash Forward (something BTW that I got immense poetic pleasure in watching,) he’s certainly free to come back and help Clark & Oliver for whatever ultra hacking skills that they might require.  We haven’t seen enough of this fan favorite and it would be great to see him again.

6) Dr. Curtis Knox – Since Season 7 is completely unsanctioned by OSCK, it’s only fitting that one of the best guest characters from that awful season make another appearance on the series. We know that Knox is still out there and we are ready for another face off between 2 Supermans. And can we please ask that Dean Cain be allowed to share a scene with Erica Durance if such wonderful casting were to occur?

7) Mikhail Mxyzptlk – there’s little doubt that Lex’s minions of Doctors in 33.1 would’ve been able to figure out how to reverse Mikhail’s frequency issues after Chloe neutralized his abilities in JINX. Our favorite resident controller would certainly be gunning for Clark with his return to Smallville. Mxyzptlk is a standard in Superman comics and it would be exciting to see how Clark could neutralize him this time around, particularly if Chloe isn’t around to help him.

8) BIZARRO – Yes, I put Bizarro on the list here. Why? Because he got seriously PUNKED in season 7 and deserves an appearance that’s worthy of him. In the comics there are many different versions of Bizarro. This time, we could have him appear as he should in Superman mythos, being completely obsessed with Lois and putting her in dangerous situations just so that he can save her and appear to be a hero.  As Clark gets closer to his iconic self and we see him becoming more the mild-mannered reporter, now would be a great time to showcase everything that we never want to see Clark be like on the series, while again allowing Tom to stretch his acting legs and have some fun. Double the Tom Welling is ALWAYS welcomed and this could make for a fabulously fun Lois & Clark episode.

Who would you like to see return on the show and why?

I’d really like to see Mxy reworked for his return. Maybe more like his comic counterpart. The imp with the derby. Martin Klebba would be perfect. He’s an amazing actor.

And a big hell yea for Dr. Curtis Knox. (aka Vandal Savage). This time let him interact with Lois Lane! It would be great to hear Dean call Erica ‘Lois’ — passing the torch.

I would really love it for Laura Vandervoort aka Kara/Supergirl to return for the 10th season. Some may say that season 7 was the worst, but ever since Kara came to Smallville I just got hooked. Kara appeared in season 8’s “Bloodline”, which was an awesome episode, and I think they (the writers) should have wrote her into the 9.07 “Kandor”, which is what she is currently looking for.

But Bizarro would also look cool if the writers find a good storyline for him, I don’t know about Dean Cain’s character, didn’t he get killed off?

I think Cyborg coming back is a great idea esp if Chloe is gone….Bruno the crime boss from Stiletto should get out of jail and terrorize Metropolis and really have it out for Lois too!

    In this order Erika:

1.) Annette O’Toole. She is needed to re-align with the mythos. She needs to be back at the farm, providing Clark some guidance in matters of the heart and to encourage Lois as well.

2.) Michael McKean. The Daily Planet now needs Perry White more than ever. So does Smallville.

3.) Michael Ironside. There’s nothing better than someone of Sam Lane’s personality popping in from time to time.

4.) Peyton List. For the reasons you mentioned, Lois needs her sister to talk to and to increase the number of people who don’t know Clark’s secret next season.

5.) Dean Cain. Curtis Knox needs to make a re-appearance if for no other reason than to meet the real Lois Lane (sorry Teri, you’re #2 in my book now).

6.) Rokk, Imra, and Garth. Once Lois knows the secret, these 3 need to come back and meet her. They don’t have to tell her anything much – just come back to meet her.

7.) Serinda Swan. Sorry, I know she rubbed a lot of people the wrong way by rubbing Clark the right way but Zatanna is a really great character for SV to use – not as a tramp but as a member of the JL. Sorry Alaina – Serinda’s fishnets got ya beat.

8.) Alaina Huffman. We need to see Ollie make a full and lasting recovery from the tiny blonde and Black Canary is just what the doctor ordered.

    9) Emil Hamilton. I’d like to see Emil running the Watchtower next season. Last time we saw him, he was chilling out. He’s probably over that and needs to get back to work.

10). Mia. Where did she go? I’d like to see Ollie mentoring her more next season as a raison d’etre. Mia would be fun under Ollie’s tutelege.
