“Clark has many sides.” – Martha Kent to Lois Lane in CRUSADE, Season 4.

But unfortunately for viewers we don’t get to see the many sides. This season, #7, they are concentrating on one side. Not the lovable BDA side. That means Big Dumb Alien to Smallville fans. No, there is another side, more malevolent then sheer ignorance – I call it Smallville’s WAC. Wimp Ass Clark. This is usually when Clark has his head up his ass . . . or more often than not on the show, he has his head up Lana’s ass. This also occurs when the producers/creators want to worship their goddess – Lana, which is not what the show is supposed to be about at all. WAC doesn’t want to explore the other powers or destiny he may have because he wants to be “normal” for his pink princess. In so doing, he sacrifices the better parts of himself and our hopes that he will ever become the Man of Steel.

When Lana is worshipped, we get WAC’d. Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders wrote WRATH. Keep in mind that writers pen under the Executive Producers’ vision so Millar and Gough as usual are responsible for the theme of the episode and its final broadcast content. Lucky for us, these two ( Brian and Kelly) usually don’t like Lana much so be prepared to not like Lana. I can live with that.

On with the cheese . . . sorry, episode –

First there was FIERCE and now there’s WRATH. This season looks far from hopeful. But then anyone with an internet connection and a curiosity regarding this show knew that the producers/creators were going to give Clark and Lana a REAL shot. Too bad no one had a gun.

Cheesy tune # 1 is playing. Oooo look at the pretty ponies. Apparently the organic, stay-at-home alien farm boy can afford champagne and truffles for . . . is it the former Mrs. Luthor yet?? Or did he steal them from France? Does he do the superspeed backstroke when he swims across the Atlantic? Y’know he’s not flying yet. It’s kind of hard to fly when you’re WAC. Clark’s first line is a question, “Overkill?” (Warning – this might be thematic.) Lana thinks the gifts were given out of guilt. She has no idea that a noble heart exists. She’s been distant, but she claims with shifty eyes, she’s busy adjusting to the new life on the farm. Ewwwww they just bumped lips.

Horsewoman extraordinaire does not take the horses into the barn to give them a good rub down. Tsk tsk tsk. Clark walks across his own property to find a piece of kryptonite conveniently by his own windmill.

Lightning strikes the windmill. Yea, you read that right. And through some kind of . . . who knows what . . . affects Lana who is holding the k-rock as Clark falls to the ground.

This is science fiction . . . emphasis on the fiction. So Lana lifts the windmill before it can crush Clark. Yea, you read that right, too.

Somebody Saaaaave Meeee . . . from this show.

It is highly recommended that you supersize to a bucket at this point. No, really.

So Clark and Lana superspeed across the Kent property to the barn where she’s all excited she has these powers now. Clark is not excited (in more ways than one) and tells her they have to find a way to get rid of her powers. Lana has other things in mind. That’s right. The only powerless human that Clark-with-powers can have sex with is Lois Lane. Sooooo the producers/creators create another loophole so Clark and Lana can have sex again. Oh goodie. Rolling eyes. Lana is the aggressor. Clark doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Cheesy music #2 is playing. It’s not romantic, it’s . . . farcical. So Mrs. Luthor starts stripping and WAC superspeeds her somewhere and the leaves fall from the trees.

Do they still make those old washtubs? My bucket is full. Usher!!! I have a feeling this is going to get worse.

We’ve gone from brie to limburger, folks. So the earth is shaking because of the super—mambo but miraculously every building stays intact including the barn which is near ground zero. The weather vane is bent though. I don’t want to know. Actually it sounded like Clark superfarts when he . . . y’know. Or maybe Lana gets indigestion from champagne and truffles.

A glimpse of Chloe at the Talon with objects vibrating. Chloe looks disturbed. And heads off to the farm.

Clark comes downstairs to find Lana in his shirt slicing something. Does someone want to queue up Rammstein’s Mein Teil? Sorry. It’s not that I’m ADD, I’m just bored. So does this mean that Clark falls asleep after doing the horizontal bop – or did he fall asleep during? Place your bets.

Lana x-rays Clark. Why? She supposedly just saw him naked. He’s not too comfortable with that. She thinks he should be happy about everything she does. Chloe barges in and starts griping about why no one has answered her ten messages she left. She has to tell them about the seismic tremors in the area. BDA says, “That was probably us.” Chloe gets the weird vibe in the room. She questions Lana. WAC realizes that Lana discusses their sex life or lack there of with Chloe. Great. Nice. Clark, you need Obi Wan Kenobe – he’s OUR only hope.

After Lana demolishes the frig, Chloe reminds Clark of the last time someone got his powers. They were a “Psych 101 case study.” Ah, but noooooo, Lana would never do that! Lana superhears WAC telling Chloe to keep an eye on her. Lana throws a picture across the bedroom and it smashes the mirror. Oops, 7 years bad luck. Viewers across the globe scream: Oh no! Not again!!!

Chloe and Lana at the Talon. Lana is trying to convince Chloe she is okay with having these powers. “It’s like you’re untouchable.” If only that were true, Lana. We wouldn’t have to witness you getting touched. So Lana lists all the virtues of having superpowers – breaking into any locked door, slipping into any room unnoticed, eavesdropping on any conversation. Yea, I feel real comfortable with Lana’s mindset about her powers. Sigh. She has a story to tell. (Little Miss Victim) Ho hum. Same ole story.

Project Scion. The liquid has mobility – it appears it wants out of the container. Good special effects with the liquid. Very cool!

Just when you thought that cramping in your stomach would go away. She’s baaack! She’s got her hair pulled back and wearin black – spying on Lex from the Isis Foundation. Apparently no one on the show has telescopic vision as a superpower yet. So sad. Lex leaves his Project Scion evidence in his safe. He departs.

Lana superspeeds to her former place of residence, melts the safe hinges with her heat vision and rips the door off. Okay, we all know she’s not the brightest bulb in the marquee (despite what Lex has said in the past – he just wanted in the pink panties) but really, she has no finesse. Superhearing as the tumblers fall into place wouldn’t have worked? Leaving a damaged safe door on the floor is far from slipping into any room unnoticed. Lana takes the Project Scion evidence.

13.5 minutes into the show. Metropolis. Luthercorp. Lionel is on the phone with Martha Kent. YEA!!! Hey, Mrs. K!!! (We don’t get to see her, she’s left the show. An apprehensive Clark enters the office. Welling and Glover are great in this scene. Clark tells Lionel that Lana has his abilities and he wants Lionel to find someone to reverse what has happened. Lionel tells him that Lana may not be who he thinks she is. Will the boy (he’s not a man yet) with the superhearing listen? Lionel tells Clark that Lana was the one who held him captive. WAC thinks Lana is incapable of such a thing. (Usher, can I get a trough? Please!!!) Lionel asks Clark if he has ever taken an honest look at her. Clark and Lana then get compared to Samson and Delilah.

16 minutes. Clark comes home to a darkened house yelling Lana. He sees her bag on the table and pulls a book from it. “I wouldn’t trust her either,” says Lex. Does Clark ever use his superhearing? Lex found his vault door on the rug and Lana was seen “walking from the mansion.” She didn’t superspeed? Shaking head. Lex wonders why Lana has super human powers. Clark tells Lex she’s been infected. Lex tells Clark. “Revenge is like an addiction.” Clark thinks he knows Lana better than Lex. But Lex tells him that he’s the last to know about the Isis Foundation. Oh thecrets and lieths. Slurp. Lex sees that Clark doesn’t trust Lana either. Great scene done by Rosenbaum and Welling.

18 minutes and some change into the episode. The Daily Planet!!! Yes!!! Lois is peeling a hot dog. That could be a euphemism, but it’s not. She’s spouting the virtues of junk food. A woman of simple tastes, who would not want her boyfriend stealing champagne and truffles from France or anywhere else on the planet. Grant Gabriel at his desk is disgusted by her culinary choice. He hands her back an article she has submitted on street gangs. She chastises him for not being “down with the people.” He reminds her he’s her boss. She turns to go when . . . psycho in black bursts through the door. Lois observes “Whew. Was there a Joan Jett audition no one told me about?” Yea, rock n roll Lo!!!

Lana pulls the Project Scion hard drive from her black bag. It doesn’t matter that Lana stole the evidence. “The world needs to know what kind of person Lex really is.” Rolling eyes. She could care less about the world. She’s out for personal vengeance – which in her world is all about her. Gabriel tells her they can’t print a story from stolen evidence. She grabs him by the neck shoves him against a wall. Lois tries to intervene and Lana tosses Lois through a window.

THAT is just WRONG!!! It’s an obvious ploy by the producers/creators to show their disdain for the Lois Lane character. Lana is their queen. Last week in ACTION we got to see their disdain for Superman comic and internet fans. Do they know the correlation between ratings and happy viewers? “I’ll take care of Lex myself.” Well go ahead just keep everyone else out of your scenes, okay? Lana walks over Lois’s unconscious body in her six inch heels without any regard for what she has done.

20 minute mark. We see a checkered floor and Clark Kent hurriedly walking down a hallway. He looks worried. He sees Lois and Chloe waiting while Lois holds a towel to her arm. Okay, we saw she had a head wound and she was unconscious at the DP but now she has an arm wound through 2 layers of clothing? Plus, why do they have to go to Smallville for hospitalization when there are probably several large hospital complexes in Metropolis? I’ve heard of preferred provider but that’s ridiculous.

Lois tells Clark not to forget flowers on Valentine’s Day. “Lana, did this to you?” he says somewhat incredulous. Hmmmm, why is he at SMC if he didn’t know Lois was hurt and how she got hurt? Lana is invulnerable now so there would be no reason for her to be using her wing of the hospital. “Yea, your girlfriend has issues, not to mention an Amazonian left hook.” Well said, Lois. Chloe always the faithful deceptive sidekick who must protect Clark’s secret at any cost – including that of family. “She must be juiced with meteor rock.” My favorite line of the show,” Can you remind me again why I decided to move to the mutant capital of the world?” Yea, Lois, we know it’s a little out of character, but we needed you – we needed you A LOT!!! We only wish there was more of you in the storylines to see.

Chloe doesn’t like the word mutant. Rolling eyes. WAC seems still to be in some kind of twilight zone of denial – major denial. “She (Lana) did this all over a story?” Yea, that’s right Clark – you know how big a liar Lois is. She’s always making up crap, getting busy with and marrying your nemesis, harping on you about thecrets and lieths, telling you she loves you and then running away. Oh wait, that’s not Lois. What the heck are they having this scene for anyway if WAC doesn’t know why he’s at the SMC, if he’s not concerned about Lois, if he just wants to find Lana. . . whatever.

“The look in Lana’s eyes made Medea look like Mother Hubbard.” That’s not good, folks. Look up Greek mythology. Clark talks about Lex saying Lana stole something from his safe. Lois tells him it’s about a project called Scion. She’s on the trail of this story when she gets repaired. Clark asks if Lois knows where Lana was headed. “Sorry, my face was polishing the hardwood floors.” WAC gulps. He should, the insensitive putz. And watches Lois walk to the treatment room. Then he says the worst line ever. (I think we should hunt down whoever wrote it.) “Lana would never hurt Lois intentionally.” Okay, I’m done puking – where’s the pitchfork and torches??? They want wrath, I’ll give them wrath!

SMC, still. Lois with her handbag and wearing a flap-in-the-back gown with slippers is sneaking out of the hospital she voluntarily entered. Oops, sorry, we should have warned about . . . confusion. IF she only had minor injuries like a stitching of wounds, they wouldn’t keep her overnight. BUT she was unconscious at the DP – but not unconscious enough to be taken to some hospital in Metropolis or via ambulance to the SMC. They made her wait in the lobby with her sidekick cousin. So apparently Lois had to be hurt but not enough to make Lana look too horrid (sorry, still didn’t work) or enough to make it look like she was being held overnight for observation, but she felt the need to escape. Do we have to go over the purpose of believability in a fiction story??? She walks backwards into the opening doors of an elevator containing her boss who has flowers. How convenient.

Gabriel spouts designer names. “This is me laughing hysterically,” Lois says with great sarcasm. We can relate. There is some verbal flirting. Lois wants this story and Grant wants her to back off. Lois mentions sexual tension and office romance. Yea, okay. Whatever. A light switch romance for Lois. Great. NOT! Couldn’t just have her investigating and getting into fixes? That would still keep her out of the WAC and Lana storylines, but noooooo. The Grant character is hiding something. That is obvious. “The fantasy stops here.” Lois is quite funny in this scene hiding her revealed backside with the bouquet of flowers, but I can’t help feeling that this is the proposed romance for Lois this season . . . with her editor at the Planet. It just irks the Superman fan in me. There’s not a puke bucket big enough.

Sorry, had to take a break. This episode (and possibly the entire season) is hazardous to my health. But I press on, it’s what the REAL Clark Kent would do.

The moon over the DP. Minute 23.5. WAC bursts into the basement of the DP whining to Chloe that he can’t get in touch with Lana. Google girl has no trace of Project Scion. Clark actually wonders if Lex has nothing to hide this time. “What if these powers are amplifying Lana’s true feelings?” Oooo, look at the big brain on the Kryptonian. So Lana’s true feelings would be violence against anyone standing in her way of revenge against Lex, tossing Lois around intentionally because she considers her a threat, going after Lex after having sex with WAC — hmmmmmmm, what does that say about WAC?

Clark is beginning to have his doubts about his and Lana’s relationship. But he’s still being insensitive to every other female on the show that has been his friend. “I haven’t been willing to admit it, but ever since Lana has come back, she’s been different. She’s darker. Lex says she’s hiding things from me.” I don’t know that Lana has changed all that much emotionally – she’s still self-centered and manipulative. Maybe WAC is starting to open his eyes, taking his pink blinders off. He questions Chloe about the Isis Foundation.

Almost minute 25. Lex on the cell phone driving in his car. Hey, he’s the villain, he can ignore traffic laws. He’s talking to someone about the liquefied metal and whether it is changing on its own or is being controlled by external forces. The scientist flunkie gives him some lip and Lex verbally smashes him like a bug. Gotta love dominant Lex.

When who should appear in front of his car at the gas station? Yea, psycho in black. So Lex expertly swerves the car and neatly parks it right beside the gas pumps. Lana walks up the car hood (bonnet for the English folk). “My God, Lana, what are you doing?” So psycho rams her fist through the windshield. Commercial break. Oh yea, the suspense is killin me. Well, at least I’m not puking. (Notice how short this scene was. Rosebaum is not getting his due this episode.)

25.5 minutes. Isis Foundation. Chloe and Clark enter. “Why didn’t she tell me about this?” Chloe tells him Lana wants to help people on her own terms. Clark stares at a wall in the office and then opens concealed doors to find Lana’s spy command center. Thecrets and lieths. “Or she’s spying on Lex and didn’t want us to know how totally depraved she is.” This from Chloe who had informed Clark that Lana started the foundation months ago. So being depraved is not a new development. He wonders if Chloe knew all along. Rolling eyes. He questions every other female’s loyalty and motives but the pink princess?? WAC! Lana is bugging Lex. Why if she has superhearing? Chloe and Clark listen to Lana grabbing Lex by the throat and asking about Scion. “Plant # 4,” chokes Lex.

Minute 27ish. Lana tosses Lex across the lab. We see a screen of Kryptonian symbols scanning across it. Much like the one in Rosetta in Dr. Swann’s office. (Yea, Christopher Reeve!!!) So Lex says he has nothing to hide, he gives Lana the password which is the date of the last meteor shower. She screams, “You’re tracking aliens? You said you stopped looking into this. If you don’t stop, more people will die.” Why isn’t she screaming at someone at Area 51? Now she’s okay with aliens? She hasn’t had the best experiences with aliens, space ships, meteors and their freaks. Her parents got pancaked by a meteor. Lex tells her that it’s not a coincidence that he has miraculously recovered from drowning in the river, the space ships, the meteor showers. “Your hunger for power landed you in the middle of it all,” she spits at him.

Uhhhh, no not exactly. Must we go over this time and again. Season 4 and 5 – the witch arc. Lana possessed by Isobel kills Genevieve Teague with one of the stones which forms the crystal that builds the Fortress. (that Jack, er, Jor-El built) The human blood on the stone (which Lana handed over to Clark with the stipulation no questions asked and WAC did it) allowed a great danger from the darkness of space to come to earth. Meaning Project Scion, Brainiac, the happy loving couple Kryptonians, and eventually Zod. So no, it wasn’t Lex’s lust for power – it was Lana’s thecrets and lieths that brought on the grief.

“There’s a reason you came to me and not to Clark. You trusted me.” You tell her, Lex! How many times has Lana run to Lex when she should have trusted/been with Clark? Twice in Reckoning. Then right after the Teague murder so Lex and Lionel could clean up her mess. There’s more . . .

Lana says it’s all over, but Lex presses the facts at her. She’s been spying on him, stalking his every move, and he wants to know why. “Because the world should know what a liar you are.” Like the world cares. “I won’t let you hurt anyone else.” Sounds personal to me. Lex reminds her that he’s trying to save people and that they started this mission together. He tells her that more aliens may come and that Project Scion may be their only hope. This is Lex Luthor’s mindset in the comics. “I want the world to know you as well as I do,” says Lana as she grabs him, rips an electrical conduit apart, and tears open his shirt. Is that entirely necessary if she’s disgusted with him? “What are you really up to?”

Lex seems to go all wimp ass on her, but really he’s diabolically manipulating her. “The only person who would really suffer is you. . .from knowing Clark would never look at you the same way again. He’s not like us, Lana. We understand that we do whatever it takes to survive.” They kiss. Evil sex. She drops the wire while kissing him and then grabs him by the throat. “Think on it. You’ll lose Clark forever,” chokes out Lex. She tosses him across the lab again and wipes away his kiss. WAC appears. “You have to stop,” he says with that pleading look. “I can’t. I have to clean up your unfinished business.” Ouch! “I’ll take care of Lex.” How does he figure that? He hasn’t stopped him so far. “NO YOU WON’T!” Okay I gotta agree with the girl here. Being WAC has major limitations. “You’re too afraid to get blood on your hands.” Uhhhh, we all know that Lana isn’t afraid to get blood on her hands. But it is true that Clark wants no one to die. He says it enough in the comics. He’ll even save villains because a loss of life is unacceptable. That’s not being WAC – that’s being Superman.

“And how many people would still be alive if you had had the guts to take out Lex a long time ago?” Man, she wants Lex D-E-A-D. “Lana, I’m taking Lex out of here,” says Clark as he turns his back to her and approaches Lex. So Lana attacks Clark from behind with Super Lana-Fu. Obviously when she studied martial arts she wasn’t taught the self-discipline aspect. Clark lands against the cabinet containing the liquefied metal that is being controlled by kryptonite. The “jar” rolls across the lab towards Lana. She drops to the floor in pain, but there’s still fight in her. “You can do anything and all you do is hide out on some farm.” The girl has a point – a major point. One we have been agonizing over for at least 2 seasons.

“I’ve protected the people I care about . . . at least I’ve tried to.” Notice Clark didn’t say the people he loves or loved. He hasn’t told Lana he loves her since mid-season six.

So somehow Clark knows to break the container, tossing the Scion part away – which can’t be good, takes the kryptonite end and the electrical conduit and reverses the super power process. Huh? Okay. Shouldn’t Clark’s brain cells function on a more consistent basis?

The liquefied metal oozes and propels on its own across the lab floor. Now where have we seen that before? Oh, I hope Brainie shows up soon!

Almost minute 32. The Daily Planet. Grant Gabriel is on the phone with someone he calls sir and tells them it has been taken care of. We see his laptop is deleting files. Lois enters. She’s been investigating Lana’s allegations but without the hard drive, there’s no trail. Gee, I wonder what Grant was deleting. Then he has the gall to tell her, “Say I was right.” She doesn’t, of course. She’s Lois Lane, but she wants to talk about what happened in the elevator at SMC. Usher, I might need that bucket back.

Grant stands up and kisses her. Lois brings up sexual harassment, but she grabs his lapels and kisses him back. “But that wasn’t.” Excuse me . . . Bleeccchhhh! Lois what are they doing to you? They’ve made Clark a wimp ass and now they’re making you a . . . any-guy-will-do kind of woman? I don’t think so. Lois Lane’s first love was the Daily Planet and her job. Having an affair with an editor would not be in the game plan – ever. Meanwhile while Lois is in a liplock, the guy she’s kissing’s laptop is continuing to delete the Scion hard drive. Lois might have missed a story in the comics for a lot of reasons but liplocking with some guy, even Clark, was not one of them. Somebody saaaaveeee meeeeee!

33.5 minutes. Luthor mansion. Lex is drinking again. He has wounds. Clark shows up minus the red jacket – wearing the blue one. So he’s not in hero mode. “Whatever infected Lana is gone now. She’s back to normal.” Clark needs to study some abnormal psychology in college so he is better equipped to make a statement like that. He wants to know if Lex is going to press charges. And legally, Lex has every right. “I know in your world nothing comes without a pay back.” Apparently in Lana’s world also – wasn’t that what this whole episode was about? Clark can’t believe that Lex is going to let Lana walk away. (Something WAC should have done a long time ago.)

Lex got something out of this after all. “Lana still has feelings for me.” Clark parries,”Those powers made her obsessed.” Uhhh what happened to the powers brought out her true feelings??? “Exactly. And passion like that doesn’t come out of the blue. Which do you think is stronger, Clark? Her hatred for me or her . . .affection for you?” You go, Lex!!! “She was angry, but eventually she’ll move on.” In what universe??? “Don’t hold your breath,” says Lex. “Funny thing about obsession is, it outlives everything. Even love.” Clark accuses Lex of instigating Lana’s acts. Lex throws it back in his face. “It’s hard to face what you’ve created.” This pissing contest totally takes Lana and her decisions out of the equation which is just wrong! She’s not a chess piece on their chessboard. Everyone has a choice – including Lana. She has to be responsible for her own actions and decisions – unfortunately this show never teaches that lesson where this character is concerned.

35.5 minutes. Lana and Chloe at Isis. Pissing contest. The female version. Chloe has shut down Lana’s spying operation. Lana tries to justify herself by saying she’s sorry. We get a mythology lesson about the goodness of Isis from Chloe. Yea, she is the exposition queen. She wants Clark to have loyalty in his life, but she doesn’t think it will come from Lana. “I would do anything for Clark.” “Even kill,” responds Chloe. “What a lucky guy.” She goes on to explain that Isis had a dark side. She was the goddess of the Underworld. Chloe doesn’t think that Lana would bring Clark to his knees . . . intentionally. There’s the word again. Bah!!! But Chloe knows Lana is capable of it. This idea that Lana does nothing intentionally or has no intentions of any kind is staggeringly abysmal. IF the CW is catering to 14 year old females – what kind of heroine is this for them to look up to? Chloe warns Lana that she will not let Lana destroy Clark.

The alloy has gone missing. “Well unless you are ready for a front row seat to the Apocalypse, I suggest we find it.” Ooooo that sounds promising. Lex leaves as a lab tech picks up a bottle and we see the metal ooze rise up to greet her. It engulfs her hand as we see her eyes go black.

The Kent barn. WAC tells Lana that Lex is not pressing charges. “If it hadn’t been for you, we wouldn’t know Lex is still tracking Kryptonians.” Oh brother. Rolling eyes. Always lookin on the bright side at the wrong time, Clark. “I wish you wouldn’t look at me like you haven’t seen me before,” pouts Lana. Hey, you’re still living at the farm, quit griping at him. “I guess I’m just trying to find a part of you I recognize.” Okay, that’s a standing ovation line. Let’s see if he can pull his head out of his ass. “Clark, it was the powers.” LIAR!!! “You have to know I would never hurt you.” Yea, she’s exactly what Lex said, she’d say and do anything to survive.

“Even before you had the powers, Lana, you kidnapped Lionel.” YES! Go Clark go!!! Lana rallies with, “Yes, but he threatened to kill you. I was trying to save your life.” “And that justifies everything?” There may be hope for this boy yet. She says she’s not going to apologize for going to extremes to protect the people that she loves. “You sound like Lex.” She tells him she sounds like him. Uhhh, no. Clark would sacrifice himself for the people he loves. Lana kidnaps, mutilates, desires to kill anyone for the people she “loves.” Big difference.

Clark walks away from her and she retaliates. “You can’t tell me you haven’t crossed the moral line in order to save somebody.” He doesn’t answer that statement. There’s a difference in destruction of property, which you repair later versus killing with desire and intent. Clark tells Lana that the last few weeks have been so great, he didn’t want to look below the surface. Apparently Lana is not a what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of girl. “Clark, I’m sorry, I wanted to be honest with you . . .” “It’s never been a part of our relationship,” he retorts. YES!!! The blinders are off!!! He realizes that they don’t trust each other.

Okay, he backslides into WAC with the “I can live with you changing, I just need to accept the fact that I’m responsible for it.” For once Lana is not allowing others to take all her responsibility away. This is a major breakthrough for her character — but how long will it last? “Don’t do that. . . take all the blame so you don’t taint the image of me that you created. I have to live with the decisions I’ve made.” Whoa! Is this Lana talking? “I just need to know you love me . . .no matter what.” Ahhh, man, she blew it!!! I knew it was too good to last. She expects too much for the little she gives.

Clark doesn’t answer which I would personally like to thank the writers for doing. Thank you!

Rating: Well it was definitely puke worthy. We could use the bucket method. Nah, better not. Having Lana say things that we’ve been wanting to hear said to Clark makes us more aware that the people who run and write this show know that this version of Clark Kent is majorly flawed. The angsty teen soap has outlived its timeframe. It’s time for Clark to grow up, be a man, begin to love who and what he is, and move on. No more WAC. Wrath gets my wrath and a 1.5 for good acting by the usual suspects and some interesting special effects.

Smallville Scoop: Justice League Returns! Plus Clark Gets a Desk Job

Get ready for the return of the Justice League. When Smallville comes back in September, the Super Friends reunite to search for Clark Kent, who went missing in May’s season finale after tussling with Lex Luthor at the Fortress of Solitude.

Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar have departed (and are currently producing the Hannah Montana movie), so four of the series’ longtime producers have taken over for Season 8. “Luckily [Al and Miles'] voices are still talking to us in our heads as we’re breaking stories,” says Kelly Souders, who is running the show with Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer. “Their visions come to us all the time, so I think they did a great job of preparing us for this day.”

One of the first things the new quartet did was lock in Justin Hartley for at least 12 episodes as Green Arrow/Oliver Queen, a fan favorite who appeared frequently in Season 6 and once last season. He’ll start this new chapter by gathering Aquaman and Black Canary to rescue Clark. Alan Ritchson and Alaina Huffman will reprise their roles, as will Phil Morris, whose Martian Manhunter also appears in the opener, titled “Odyssey.”

This season’s theme is “double identities,” Souders says. “It’s about the Superman identity emerging as Clark Kent tries to maintain a normal life — or the appearance of a normal life.” To that end, he takes a job at the “Daily Planet,” right across the desk from Lois Lane (Erica Durance).

“The camaraderie as they work side-by-side that everyone loves from the DC Comics and all the Superman lore is going to come to fruition this year,” Souders says. “The two of them are thrown together in some unfortunate situations for Clark. She becomes a little bit of an obstacle to him saving the world, when he’s on a deadline.” — Rich Sands

Plastique is a fictional supervillain published by DC Comics. She first appeared in Fury of Firestorm #7 (December 1982), and was created by Gerry Conway and Pat Broderick.

We may be finally seeing some of the other DC Comics crossovers that were promised but did not materialize for season 7 with Plastique! We had been told that Smallville was being given the ok last year to mine the DC depths for foes for Clark and the nascent Justice League to fight other than just Lex and Brainiac.

Originally Plastique wore a costume covered with plastic explosives, which she could trigger and detonate manually. She has since gained the ability to project explosive force at will by touching an object with her fingertips. Bette Sans Souci which is Plastique’s real name- translates to Bette Without Concern or Doesn’t Care- an apt moniker for a woman who first appeared in the comics as a Canadian Quebec militant separatist. Mon Dieu! Smallville’s Canadian viewers may be in for a treat if Clark ends up taking on an actual Canadian baddie! Let’s see if she is portrayed as less provincal than the Quebec citizens were in Phantom when we saw the woman and her father living in a hovel in the woods…..

Plastique was associated with really bad terrorists over her career including joining forces with Islamic extremists at one point. She will not be a sympathetic villain. This should be someone Clark can look at and really fear- not an alien from another planet, not a meteor freak but something else- and someone who has no regard for human life, something Clark does value.

Sounds like not only with Oliver be coming to town to help Chloe out- but that with Lex gone a whole mess of baddies may be coming in to fill the power void. This would definitely necessitate Clark moving from Smallville to Metropolis. Sounds like Shelby and the farm may not make too many appearance this season. If Clark is acting as a hero and not moping in the barn- things should be looking up from the get go of season 8!

Erica Durance who plays Lois Lane on Smallville is one of the four performers nominated in the OSCK Awards for best actor, regular cast. She is joined on this short list by Tom Welling ( Clark Kent), Michael Rosenbaum ( Lex Luthor) and in his final season John Glover ( Lionel Luthor).

This season Lois , much like Clark saw some big changes in her life. Lois came back from the dead to find her cousin in dire straits in the season opener. While things were literally falling down around her Lois was able to keep things together by focusing on one thing- finding out what Lex Luthor was up to and trying to figure out how to get him where he belongs- in jail! Lois’s vendetta against Lex began in season 6 when she found out Lex had turned her one time friend Wes Keenan into an abomination of a super soldier in some off the grid experiments. Lois got no support from her employer the Inquisitor, the tabloid she had begun working for in season 6, and Chloe and Clark her best friends and family didn’t support her journalistic efforts either.

When Lois thinks Chloe is in danger in Bizarro she doesn’t sit around worrying she heads off to find Lex and confront him. Instead she finds “Clark” and we get one of the first comedic moments of the season as Lois gets hit on by Clark’s doppleganger Bizarro. Erica is the queen of mugging for the camera and uses her expressive abilities to play out the comedy in this scene in the midst of a pretty big action episode to her advantage.

Erica’s episodes were spread out this season and her storyline was a bit disjointed. Having an affair with her editor who was a clone was just kind of odd but always the trooper Erica Durance never let her performance slip. Highlights for me this season were the few times we saw her with Clark, Lois investigating with Jimmy, and Lois and the return of Oliver Queen and thier final breakup. Lois crying on Clark’s shoulder that she can’t come second, she has always been second place and that Oliver has a purpose in life bigger than her was heart breaking and ironic especially when we know that Lois will be the one woman on this planet who will figure out how to share her life with a man whose job it is to save the world.

End of season we saw Lois really move into her reporter role with vigor- staying on even when Lex took over the paper and kept trying to keep her out of his business. In Clark’s alternate reality Apocalypse, much like we saw Tom Welling give us a glimpse of how he could be a believable Superman, we also saw a more seasoned reporter in Lois and one with the hutzpah to be a Pulitzer prize winning take no prisoners reporter which is in her future as much as the red cape is in Clark’s. Like Siren where we saw Lois cry on Clark’s shoulder and he provided her comfort, Apocalypse saw Lois reach out to Clark to pull him out of his worries for a time and share some time away from the weight on his shoulders.

As Smallville moves into its eighth and possibly final season, it faces many changes that will either revitalize the show or alienate loyal viewers. Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk and Laura Vandervoort will no longer be series regulars, creators Al Gough and Miles Millar have moved on to other projects, Justin Hartley is joining the cast as Green Arrow, and two new villains will be causing trouble for Clark. For those fans who are worried about the direction of the show or simply must know what happens next, we have some exciting spoilers for Smallville season 8.

As we’ve come to expect with Smallville, the latest season finale left us wondering what would happen to many of our favorite characters. Clark (Tom Welling) and Lex were buried within the Fortress of Solitude, Kara was trapped in the Phantom Zone, Lana left town and Chloe (Allison Mack) got arrested. With all of those events left unresolved, how will season 8 start off?

There are four nominees in the category of best actor, regular cast member for Season 7. I will be posting a badge once a week for these key nominees. Tom Welling who plays Clark Kent and is the star of Smallville, is our first nominee for this category. He is up against Erica Durance ( Lois Lane), Michael Rosenbaum ( Lex Luthor) and in his final season , John Glover ( Lionel Luthor).

Clark had a tough year this year. He had Lana come back from the dead and they tried a “real adult” relationship which did not fare very well, what with his newly discovered cousin showing up, strange Kryptonians and assorted clones coming to town and Lex delving deeper into his obsession with aliens as Brainiac reappeared. On top of all of this Clark had to deal with his own doppleganger who was able to replace him with nobody noticing…..

There were times when Tom showed brilliance and real focus in his role this season. Bizarro and Kara were great episodes with lots of Clark time and Clark using his brain. Tom Welling got to have fun as the sociopathic Bizarro and use a voice modulator to talk in a lower register which was pretty nifty. Tom really shined in Fracture where he jumped in to hero mode without any hesitation and dealt with the child in Lex along the way. Tom has the gentleness of Superman down and it shows when he interacts with little kids- this season we saw him do this several times , in Bizarro he stopped the river from flooding amazing a kid and saving the boy’s dad, in Kara he pulled a kid out of his cousin’s grasp and then there was the little boy in Lex’s head which I dare anyone to say that Clark’s promise to keep an eye out for little Alexander didn’t pull at their heartstrings.

To balance out these strong episodes there were some stinker episodes too where many have commented that Tom just didn’t seem as into his part as he has in the past. I felt this was pretty much behind him by the time our post- strike episodes aired. I loved Tom in the episode he directed “Apocalypse.” We all got a glimpse of what could be and what could be in my opinion is that Tom Welling could play Superman.
