Alaina Huffman head into space on Stargate Universe
Alaina Huffman who has played the part of Dinah the Black Canary on Smallville the last two seasons- has a new gig lined up. It was announced today in the Hollywood Reporter that she will be joining the cast of Stargate Universe along with Lou Diamond Phillips and Ming Na. The previously announced lead for the series is Robert Carlyle who appeared this fall in the FOX TV movie 24: Redemption. Alaina will be playing a field medic.
Also joining the cast is Elyse Levesque- a young actress who had a background part on Smallville’s episodes Wrath and Gemini as Casey Brock. She will be playing a senator’s daughter and aide.
Stargate Universe will be an all new franchise for the Stargate series. The premise is that a group of people come under some kind of attack and have to gate away from the planet where they are- and something goes wrong. Instead of gating to their safety zone, they end up encoding an extra chevron on the stargate and it leads them to another galaxy and onto an ancient ship- one that was used to seed the galaxies with stargates. They have no idea where they are and no way home. Premise reminds me of Star Trek Voyager- except this crew didn’t set out to explore the universe. Who knows what nasties they will find among the stars….
Does this mean no more Black Canary on Smallville you ask? The good news for BC fans is that SGU will be running on a different shooting schedule than Smallville so she should be able to fit in an episode or two if Smallville wants her. Since she will be in Vancouver- she actually may be more accessible than before.
