Smallville 814 Requiem Teaser and Trailer – season resumes in March
Here are the promos for next week which is Kristin Kreuk’s final episode EVER of Smallville. We then get a break with repeats until the season resumes on March 5 with the airing of 815 Infamous and the return of Lois and hopefull the return of the good storytelling we had in the first half of the season. Lets see if there are any discussions of a season 9 after Requiem airs- check the OSCK forums for ratings updates - but I am guessing that the final auditions for American Idol crushed everything tonight. Next week- Bones is airing an all new episode on Fox at the same time as Smallville-that is what we will be watching. I love Brendan Fehr who is returning as Booth’s brother- he has to work with the team from the Jeffersonian to save Booth from the Grave Digger. See our sister site Multipleverses for more Bones news.
Erica Durance has a new movie that premieres on the Lifetime Movie Network on Sunday night- see the Lois blog for details.
WARNING- CLANA sex in the trailer. That is all I am saying about this episode and that I am so disappointed in the direction the season has gone that I can’t even write about it.

What the heck are they trying to do? Is this the return of seasons past? Are they going to make Lois wind up being Lana’s sloppy seconds?
This is just plain wrong. There should have been no return of the Clana crap. Lana returns and there goes SuperClark and we get “treated” to SuperLana. Blech.
Lana doesn’t deserve a “heroic and beautiful send off” She was and is a powerhungry, lying, stealing, torturing, murdering witch. Did she suddenly get washed clean? She did it all for selfish reasons again. She was just plain jealous of Clark’s abilities. She had to become invincible so she could have him, because she knew in the long run Clark would choose the world over her. Lana couldn’t stand that. The sun is supposed to revolve around her and only at her behest. Now he doesn’t have to choose, she can go with him. UGH! Selfish %*&%*$
Lana “I hope”is gone for good after this episode, then we can return to the good episodes of Clark and Lois as we were promised at the beginning of the season.
LET THIS BE THE END OF LANA FOR ONCE AND FOR ALL!
The past couple of weeks have been a real rollercoaster for me because I have been trying to figure out which direction the show was taking. I mean, the first half was great, I will admit. Clark Kent was moving forward, he was ‘Letting it go.’ I was for one pleased and proud to watch the show. But looking back on it now, it seems as if it was ploy to keep me watching. I feel like a fool.
The reason I say this is because the producers of Smallville stated that they knew what, when, and how this whole ’middle of the season’ arc was going to take place before the season began. As a fan of Clark Kent, I am livid. Here is why. I spent years watching him blame himself for everything, stating and I quote, ‘It’s all my fault.’ Clark never let anyone take the blame for anything or let the responsibility lie with others. He was always consumed with guilt and remorse for the outcome of other characters decisions or actions. I for one am tired of hearing Clark making excuses for others and constantly neglecting his life choices and wants, which sadly will continue after watching Power and the trailer for Requiem, for the sake of others.
The latest Smallville arc has Clark forgetting his self worth and forgetting his goals. He was so actively pursuing a better life for himself and to see him sacrifice that so he can have a relationship with someone who wants to be his equal, who is all about power, is mind boggling. You could even set this arc aside and take things from past seasons and still the fact that he would even go there again tells me he is still a little boy who can’t love himself. The fact that he is condoning this kind of behavior and sacrificing his beliefs for this relationship is so beyond dysfunctional for his character and the series.
I know the arc will end soon, with the relationship coming to an end, I get it. But at what cost? It still lacks closure and that is what upsets me the most. He will continue to say ‘It’s all my fault,’ for the rest of his life. He will continue to brood and continue to ask himself what if. All of this will happen because he can’t be physically with the one he loves. How can one ever come back from that? In the past seasons the progression for the boy to the man was held back not only by him, but this dysfunctional relationship that took precedence over his own life. Not only did the producers and writers blow a huge opportunity here by not giving these two characters an adult arc with closure, but they did a greater disservice to Clark Kent, ruining his story and the Smallville series by having him always wonder the ‘What if?’
Reason I feel livid, is I believed. I blame myself for believing that they would actually write a good story. I think that they knew from the beginning what was going to happen and how they wanted it to happen. I don’t think they had the guts to do the right thing by Clark. Therefore I feel like a fool, being sucked in once again with this nonsense. I didn’t sign up for this. I wanted to see a boy, grow up to be a man who will become the greatest hero I loved as a kid. In my eyes, that can never happen. He will always look back and question everything. He will always question his future actions and he will always second guess himself. That’s not Superman and that is not Clark Kent. His life shouldn’t take a backseat to a relationship, nor should a season. It could have been believable as a boy, but not now, not as man. So with that I say, great going. The one saying I have hated because it was always conveniently thrown around, makes sense to me now, ‘This is Smallville.’ One saying has never been truer and the show is nothing more. It stands alone and I am not going to waste my time trying to figure it out anymore because quite frankly none of it makes any sense. To me it doesn’t fit the Superman lore and I for one don’t buy any of it.
Thanks for the CLANA sex warning. Now I’m definitely not going to watch the trailer for next week. No freakin’ way! LOL
I just want to state that I am SOOOO disappointed in the direction this show is going. I barely managed to finish Power (I FF’d through the a lot of it) and I’m definitely NOT going to watch Requiem. There’s just no way. I’ll be back to watch when Lois returns.
no offense to Lana fans but this is getting annoying.they need to move on from the whole Clana thing already and show Clark moving more towards his destiny to save people and become SuperMan.hopefully ratings wont drop.I’d like to see another season of the show
I’m with the other posters, here on this one! I really just started paying attention to this show but have quickly caught up watching previous seasons on dvd and catching season 8 up to this point. Clark Kent was really moving FORWARD. You can literally see (and feel) that he was transforming into the Man of Steel before our eyes. Lana herself even said so upon her return. “Maybe Clark Kent and Lana Lang were not meant to be”. And she alluded to the fact that he has moved on and he is finding his place in the world. This is how Lana’s last eps should have gone, with two ADULT people that have moved on and realize that it is truly over between them. Simple! Even the Talon kiss at the end of BULLETPROOF didn’t bother me b/c I knew it was just reactionary on Clark’s part (hanging on to the past and getting consumed w/ emotion) and he quickly knew it was a mistake at the beginning of POWER when he told Chloe. Then Chloe goes into some diatribe about how he still loves Lana (how does she know?). Then this ridiculous plot of Lana being superhuman. Ridiculous. They could have neatly wrapped up the Clana drama with some thought-provoking writing, but they bail out and look like they’re going to have some pathetic tragic ending to cater to a bunch of hardcore Clana fans who persist to live in a dream world of misguided puppy love and obsession. Meanwhile, Clark has this incredible woman (Lois) right before his eyes that is so much better for him than Lana in virtually every way and he’s too blind to see it. He even told Lois this in INSTINCT. “What if my soulmate comes along and I’m too blind to see it?” You are, Clark! You are!
Well, I hate to disagree with what appears to be the majority opinion here, but I for one have no problems with the way the story is going, and I am a huge Superman fan. Is it a complete departure from the conventional story? Sure. But we knew going in that this would be the case. If I wanted the same old story, exactly the same way, I’d watch old re-runs of previous superman series’ and movies, or dig into my old comic book collection. I watch Smallville to get something DIFFERENT. A new take, a new vision. And, frankly, I’m enjoying the heck out of it. Lana, Clark, Cloe, Loise and all. The Lana/Clark rollercoaster has been a wild ride, and I’m glad they gave it another twist before they dropped it, as we all knew they inevitably would.
Lois is destined to be Clark’s eventual love. We all know that. But there has to be SOME reason that they break up for good. Kryptonite poisoning is, i suppose, as good as any. It’s tragic. It’s poignant. It’s good drama.
That said, you’re all certainly entitled to your opinion, and I respect that. Just remember that if you go at the show with expectations and a closed mind, you will NOT enjoy it. And that’s just a tragic loss for you.
What I find so reprehensible is that on a show supposedly about Clark Kent and his journey to becoming a hero (namely Superman) — they do a bait and switch and show us it’s all about Blahna Blang and her ‘hero’s’ journey. This character is now more powerful than Superman — and she has the ability to kill him. TPTB have willy nilly created something and put it out into the universe — and in true Blahna fashion will not take responsibility for their actions. We’ll never hear from SuperBlahna again (hopefully) because if and when she ever appears on the Smallville scene — she will be cured and this whole Clark regressing to a 14 year old with raging hormones, no balls and no brain will start up all over again.
This is just bad writing and poor storytelling. It insults the audience and the characters as well.
With any alternate universe story, there are key principles that abide. These keep the reader/viewer interested because they know these principles and a trust is innately built between the author of the story and the consumer. If those principles — and any alternate principles that are established — are ignored or completely abandoned, then trust is gone — and it is just bad storytelling because you lose the audience.
Case in point: Smallville is about Clark Kent’s journey to his destined place in this world — a 71 year old story which is considered a neverending story, which means most people expect certain tried and true principles to be adhered to. Certain aspects of this prequel’s premise was a ‘what if.’ What if Clark and Blahna could be together always despite the destiny? A flawed premise because one of the cornerstones of the Clark Kent character and his story is his relationship with Lois Lane.
Clark not only explores his abilities, but he’s uncomfortable with them. At 14 or 15 he thinks Blahna is the center of the universe. That’s perfectly fine. But then the authors of this show decided to convince their audience that Blahna was the center of the show — and not Clark. Oh they give lip service to . . we love Clark, just as they give lip service to loving Lois. It’s all lies. If actions speak louder than words then what we have seen on our tv screens over the seasons is an unadulterated lust for the character/actress of Blahna Blang. Clark Kent be damned.
The Blahna/Clark ride is a study in sick psychology — and that is something no superhero should be involved in — not even Batman. The most powerful being in the universe (I’m talking about Clark now) who realizes his being an alien would cause people to fear him — cannot be pussy whipped by a multipersonality psychotic! — especially with superpowers.
The original premise they started out with was not validated at the conclusion. Clark is not the man who will become Superman (so is he really Clark Kent? or just using the name) and Blahna has had so many personalities in 8 years no one really knows who the hell she is — especially Clark. And in the end — destiny steps in and pimp slaps them both. I’m rooting for destiny. I’ve always been a big fan of Clark’s destiny — it’s gotten him through seven plus decades and its fans will get him through just as many in the future.
So it’s not about closed mindedness or fearing a change in a story. Alternate universes are like that. What it is about is a lose of trust and bad storytelling. Screwing with the basic principles that tell THIS particular story and trying to feed an audience bullsh*t instead of the gourmet meal they had been promised.
Long after Smallville is off the air — Clark and his destiny will keep marching on. Blahna will revert to being a dustmite on the radar of the Superman mythology. Lois Lane will be his one and only. The only superpowered being in the story will be the one Joe and Jerry created years ago — because they gave that character the emotional, physical, mental and spiritual makeup that makes people trust an alien who is just trying to give something back to a planet he loves.
I find it very sad that a generation will grow up believing that Blahna is Clark Kent’s heart’s desire always — she’s such a despicable character on Smallville. Her last episode did not vindicate her in any way — does anyone truly believe that she’s going to go out and save the world? Yes, she changed her body — but she has never had a heart for people — and that is Clark Kent’s claim to fame in his story.
I challenge the writers and producers of Smallville to CONTRIBUTE positively to the Superman mythos of over seven decades. Be remembered as the kick ass show it could be — showing us Clark and Lois meeting at an earlier time but still telling the story that Superman fans all love.
This is in response to Michael’s post:
Michael, I could have been perfectly okay with the ‘roller coaster’ or drama or tragedy as you’ve put it, if it had not come on the expense of Clark Kent’s character.
I would have loved if they had left Clark/Lana on a note where it would give respect to both characters and their “lovestory” no matter how much exaggerated and unneccessary it was to this show.
But what they did is completely unacceptable to me. Clark having no qualms about killing for Lana? Clark not questioning Lana’s shady activities and morals? And the fact that Lana has now the same powers as Clark? Sorry, I don’t know how you can approve of this nonsense as a Superman fan, I simply can’t.
The moments between Clark and Lana held no magic and drama, most people were at best – disgusted with the way Clark has been dragged down into mud only because KK/Lana needed a “dramatic” departure.
They could have done it maturely without betraying Superman fans like me, who feel that Clark Kent is above all the “drama and tragedy” on this show, because it’s all about him, not about Lana.
You are entitled to your opinion but I completely disagree that PTB should be allowed to massacre Clark for the sake of this so called drama that left zero impact but left most of the viewers distraught.
Micheal,
I am a huge Superman fan myself. Let me first say that when I started watching Smallville, that I had no problem with the way the story was going. I actually had no problem with the Lana and Clark relationship. That is the truth. I knew she was his first ‘love or crush’ and I knew they would show that. I was actually excited to see how that relationship would be played out. It is part of his childhood, teen years so to speak and I wanted to see how that relationship would work for a boy with powers coming into his own about who he is and what he will become.
I don’t think that my expectations were too high and that I have a closed mind when it comes to Clark. This is his journey after all. But I already know that he will become Superman and I already know the love of his life is Lois Lane. So to try and lead me to believe that Lana Lang is does not work.
I do however have high expectations in respecting the character of Clark Kent. The problem is that this relationship has taken on more meaning than Clark himself. The relationship should have ended in season 4. I have an open mind and I would have much rather seen Clark in other relationships, maybe just dated around, find another women who he can have a relationship with or even left him single than to watch this train wreck for 8 years. Give the guy some spice and some experience. Seriously, giving him this one relationship that has been dysfunctional, delusional, and hypocritical has left a bad taste in my mouth. Clark’s character, personality, beliefs, moral code, integrity, and self worth has been changed on so many occasions just for this girl that I find it appalling. He has no experience in love department and for him to act like this now, as a grown man is very disheartening. They need to start focusing on him more and let him get his shit together.
Playing this relationship up one last time like they did is boring television and it’s a ‘been there done that’ kind of moment. So by you coming on here and telling some fans to have an open mind when I believe that I had an open from the beginning is just wrong. I closed my mind when they kept doing this over and over again. Maybe they, the producers should open their minds and think, ‘Hey, there are other women out there other than Lana.’
It is way too late into the series to even do this now. It was a huge opportunity lost. They focused too much on Lana and not enough on Clark. Plus after watching this last arc, they missed another opportunity. It could have ended in an adult manner, instead of repeating themselves over again for the hundredth time. No, they decided to let Clark act like a teenage boy again after I was starting to see him finally, for the first time in this series, get his shit together and be a man. And you say we don’t have an open mind. I can’t help but laugh at that.
I agree with you that it is a tragic loss for us as fans, but not in the way you claim. It is a tragic loss for us and one for producers as well for not focusing on Clark himself and giving us better television instead of focusing on a relationship and Lana. This isn’t the journey of Lana. It’s the journey of Clark Kent. These last 3 episode can just go to the way side for all I care, because it doesn’t matter how they try to spin it for me, Lois Lane will always be the one and only true love of Clark Kent’s life.
Michael, even though I strongly disagree with you, I applaud you for stating your differing opinion – as a Superman fan – about Clana on Smallville. I don’t think I watch Smallville with a closed mind or with very many expectations. I certainly appreciate a good roller coaster ride.
I’ve never gotten much satisfaction out of Clark and Lana’s relationship. I guess it’s a roller coaster that always made me sick (& sad), rarely made me laugh and rarely thrilled me. These things are subjective of course. And it helps me to put things into perspective to see that there are other SV viewers who did enjoy Clana and had fun. I was very interested in where things would go for Clana after “Bulletproof.” “Power” and “Requiem” killed it for me. To have Lana lust for power as she did in “Wrath” and as Oliver did in “Rage” with no reaction from Clark Kent was just… unbelievable. Then to have him want to kill Lex after sparing his life in “Zod” and sparing Chloe in “Legion” … simply horrible. I guess it could be seen as a crime of passion.
Again, I thank you for your honesty about Clana. I hope you don’t feel attacked just for having a different opinion.
It is called lively debate- and we all have our own opinions. My sister describes Smallville as being the show that induces bipolar fan disorder into its viewers- there is little middle ground with Smallville, You either love it or hate – and that goes week by week. The long run of good episodes this fall- and though I found Abyss to be boring- Clark was in character throughout wanting to protect people and looking out for the greater good- I didn’t have any problems with the first half of this season. I wrote here on OSCK that I enjoyed Clark in Bulletproof right up until the moment he walked into the time warp in the Talon and regressed to the 14 year old idiot who wanted something that was always more idea than actuality.
I would have much rather seen Clark and Lana really examine their relationship and what they both want and need and really see in the other person and to realize that neither one of them is who the other one wants/sees or needs and to end things as FRIENDS. To respect one another, have a special softness for each other and to respect their feelings and history. That would have made this Clark and Superman fan happy. And it could be done using some big drama and action in between. It was sloppy sloppy writing on behalf of the showrunners – this whole arc was obviously planned for last year and they dusted off the half finished scripts and inserted a few elements from this season to smash it all together and try to make things work- ignoring everything that happened in the months leading up to this point. The man who gave Lana such a cold reception in Bride and blew her off in the beginning of Bulletproof was gone with one kiss.
Yuck. The good news is that the season can now resume. I bet that this arc is brushed almost completely under the table to be ignored and forgotten. I know I will be doing so!
BTW- plenty of Lana fans are not happy – they hated the whole Super Lana thing too and just wanted her to be able to leave and be happy. Couldn’t she be heroic by leaving to pursue an education and expanding her ISIS center into a network to help people with abilities across the globe? Bah humbug! And I do not believe LEx is dead- I sense an Attack of the Clones as a possibility down the road….
You know what’s funny to me? People keep saying the Lois and Clark story has been told for 70 years, so that makes it boring. Guess what? It only took 5 years for the Clana story to become boring, imo. It probably took less time for other people.
How many times and how many different interpretations have their been of Pride and Prejudice? Countless! And the core story still works and is relevant almost 200 years later. The reason? By definition a true classic endures.
