Smallville Season 8- Can it survive with Cast Changes?

New Article on BuddyTv speculating about if Smallville can do an 8th season without Michael, Kristin and Allison- my favorite line:

“Could Smallville survive without Lex, Lana, or Chloe? Though some people are fairly tired of the endless Clark and Lana drama, she does seem like a character that’s rather essential to the series. On the other hand, I could easily see Lex and Chloe returning as “special guest stars” instead of series regulars. This would be detrimental to the show, as these two characters are probably more interesting than anyone else on Smallville, but they’re also two that are often shoehorned into plots in an attempt to give them something to do. That’s the only possible explanation for giving Chloe magical powers and having Lex try to marry Lana.”

DUH!
Actually I think getting Allison to sign up will not be a problem- can we hope Kristin has a BIG movie deal and will not come back? Having Lana finally leave the show and the CLANA storyline end would open the door to so much GOOD storytelling. Siren showed that focusing on Superhero action and not soap does get ratings!

Michael as a special guest would be fine as then when he was on we would get a lot of screen time with him unlike how he has been wasted most of this season with nominal screen time.

  1. of course it will survive we still need the clark and lois relationship to blossom and maybe green arrow or cyborg can join the show and all these kool things can happen plus Tom Welling fans are really loyal to him.

  2. 1. I never liked the introduction of Lois Lane into Smallville. I think they have done some interesting storylines with her in the cast, but it kind of throws off the continuity in a major way.

    2. I would like to see Lex leave. I like him, but just don’t think they are doing the character justice. He’s involved in everything that is underhanded, but we all know that there are more villians than Lex in the world of Superman.

    3. I love the guest stars, but hope they don’t overdo it. Green Arrow was a great addition, and I hope he comes back to some degree. I would also like to see the Flash return, and maybe introduce some other heroes like Green Lantern.

  3. Lois would be the one character who will not be leaving - if anything we will see more of the young Lois Lane reporter establishing herself as the fearless and fearsome reporter that Clark Kent will be paired with down the road. I am enjoying seeing her evolution now that they have her character development on track. Erica Durance has done an excellent job this past year tempering Lois’ hard edges with a soft vulnerability when she is with Clark showing the woman under the iron facade.

I too like the guest stars- hoping for more Green Arrow and the other guys. The Martian Manhunter has more story to tell as well.

What I really want is some good old fashioned bad guys- maybe a nascent evil crime syndicate that is starting to make trouble that Clark can’t completely squash but can open his eyes as to how much the world needs him as a hero.

  4. I KNOW the show will survive with the cast changes. I am surprised Lana’s character has lasted this long…Kristen is great and all…but enough already. We need to see Clark begin his journey to becomeing Superman.. Saveing the world not the girl. I also LOVE Erica has the new Lois Lane (perfect casting job) I love her and Jimmy working together and seeing their relationship grow as well. Now we need to see Clark take up reporting and Chloe be full time watch tower for the JLA!! I love the show and hope it continues for atleast 1 more season.

  5. SMALLVILLE expanded upon characters that were only ever back story - smallville was just where clark was raised and most references were exposition . The Lana relationship was forbidden fruit from the start - and even though the creative direction precludes the transistion to Superman, the most recent episode APOCALYPSE showed where the continuiing direction could be - Clark has got to accept his invetiable place in the world, perhaps a complete overhaul of the costume with futuristic materials and design - or something, that might allow Clark’s transition to begin.
